Our Green Learning Tree
The tree represents the growth journey of our children as they progress through the school. Starting at the beginning, at the base of our Learning Tree we ensure all children feel Safe, Happy and Loved because it is only when these roots are established that we can successfully move onto learning how to behave and manage our feelings (represented by our Values images). The next stage in our learning journey, as we move up the trunk, is learning how to learn (represented by our Learning Stars) and we crown our learning with an enriched Green Values Curriculum that teaches children to be Good Citizens and Guardians of our World.
Message from the Headteacher
I am really excited to have been appointed to the position of Headteacher from September 2020. I have had the privilege to work at FHIS for the last 12 years with the last five of these as Deputy Headteacher. The children and the families are the heart of FHIS and I believe they should all have the best opportunities to reach their full potential. I have a real love for learning and want to ensure we are providing creative and irresistible experiences across each and every day. I want to carry on with learning being personalised but most of all make sure that the children are safe, feeling happy and loved. When not busy at school I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and walking my dog, Ralph.
FHIS is a very special place and I look forward to continuing our learning journey together, parents, staff, Governors, and children.
Together, home and school can create a strong partnership which can engender and nurture that essential aspect of children’s education, a love for learning, which is why we actively encourage your involvement.
Do come and see what Falconer’s Hill Infant School has to offer your child. We can guarantee you a very warm welcome.
Headteacher and Lead SENCo
What has been happening at FHIS in 2020?
Our whole school learning adventure this term is called ‘Globe Trotters’ and the children have been widening their horizons and developing their global citizenship by learning about other countries and their people. So far we have covered Russia, China and Brazil. We have celebrated each country with special events such as: a retelling of the story of the Russian story Peter and the Wolf with songs, acting and puppets. Dragon, umbrella and fan dance workshops and a day of festivities linked to Chinese New Year and recreating a Brazilian Carnival complete with samba music and dancing and a colourful parade. Wow! It’s been an exciting half term full of memorable experiences- we can’t wait to travel to our next three locations: Australia, India and Africa!
Celebrating learning all about China with Dance Workshops, food tasting, chinese writing, and a beautiful Chinese New Year Dragon dance!
As part of our learning we were visited by a Brazilian national and tried traditional Brazilian food.
We had so much fun with our Brazilian Carnival with colourful clothes, our own handmade masks, and music!
We were also very lucky to be treated to a performance of a traditional Samba dance by two of our pupils.
Here we are tasting fruits from Brazil and making smoothies!
We had a retelling of the Russian story of Peter and the Wolf with songs, acting and puppets. Pictures to follow!
What happened at FHIS in 2019?
We had a visit from Dave Sharp in October who brought with him our real live mascot! Fizz the Falcon, along with 'Natures Recycler's' (giant African snails, an albino hedgehog and some flying beetles) were on display for all to see.
Our internal post office has really taken off!
The children are so excited about writing letters and last week there were 161 in the post box!
Each class is taking it in turn to be the Peregrine Postal workers and sort and deliver the mail.
They have designed stamps for Peregrine Post and these will be in circulation soon. There were so many amazing entries to this Home Learning Challenge we will be using several of the designs and issuing a new stamp weekly.
