πŸ”¬ Science Week 2026 πŸ”¬

This week was Science Week, and the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a wide range of exciting experiments and activities. Each class focused on working scientifically by making predictions, carrying out investigations, and recording their results.

A few favourites included exploring our Curiosity Box, where the children used only their sense of touch to guess what was hidden inside. This activity encouraged careful observing, questioning, and lots of thoughtful predictions. Another highlight was the Mentos experiment, which sparked excitement and amazement as the children watched the fizzy reaction! πŸ¬πŸ’₯

We were also delighted to welcome Mr Evans from DSLV, who visited us to lead a range of fascinating science demonstrations during our Science Week assembly. His experiments created a real sense of awe and wonder and helped to spark even more curiosity among the children.

We would like to thank Mr Evans for taking the time to visit us and for inspiring our young scientists.

Wishing you all a wiondeful weekend.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

βœ…  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage β€” that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
9th March - 13th March

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 100%
🍁 Sycamore – 97%
🌿 Ash – 95%
πŸ‚ Maple – 94%
🌳 Oak – 99%
🌼 Willow – 97%

🏫 Whole School Attendance β€“ 97%

πŸ₯‡ Congratulations to Chestnut Class for achieving attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school β€” every day counts!

Attendance Communication Reminder

We kindly ask all parents and carers to contact the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent.
You can notify us via:

  • Telephone: 01327 702878 – Office hours are 8am-4pm but leaving a voicemail is an option
  • Email: admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk
  • Seesaw message: Ideally to Mrs Griifiths or Mrs Orme

If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the school office in advance.
Where possible, please provide appointment letters, cards, or confirmation messages so we can update our records accurately.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports the wellbeing of all our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

S4A Wrap around Care

We are pleased to share that we are currently collaborating with S4A to explore the development of a wraparound care offer for our children and families.

We know that many families have previously expressed interest in extending school provision until 6:00pm, and we have listened carefully to this feedback. As we move forward, it is important to us that any wraparound care is thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of our children and reflects what parents and families would find most supportive and valuable.

To help us shape this provision, we kindly ask that you complete the following survey to express your interest and share your views. Your feedback will play a vital role in ensuring that the offer is designed around our school community.

School Office Foyer

If you are in the school office foyer, we kindly ask that you do not let other visitors in.

We appreciate the politeness, but this is an important part of keeping everyone safe and maintaining privacy within our school.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Respectful Language & Behaviour on School Grounds

We kindly remind parents, carers, and visitors to use kind and respectful language at all times on the school site. Swearing, hand gestures or unkind words are not appropriate, as we aim to set a positive example for our children and maintain a caring, welcoming environment for everyone.

Year 2 Big Sing Competition

This year, the theme of our Year 2 Big Sing at the Royal & Derngate Theatre is β€œAt the Zoo” πŸ¦πŸ˜πŸ¦’

We are excited to announce a brand-new competition linked to this event! One outstanding piece of artwork from across the school will be selected to be showcased on the stage at the theatre.

All children are invited to take part by creating one piece of artwork inspired by animals that live at the zoo. This can be:

  • A drawing
  • A painting
  • A craft or mixed-media piece

Please ensure that all artwork is clearly labelled with your child’s name and age.

Only one piece of artwork will be chosen to be displayed, so children are encouraged to take their time and make it their very best effort.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful, creative zoo-inspired artwork from across the school.
