Falconer's Hill Infant School Friday 20th March 2026

{item_alt_tag}

Review Of The Week

It has been a very busy week in school! Across all year groups, children have been engaging in phonics assessments to help track their sound gaps and move on to the next coloured group. This important work helps ensure every child is supported in their reading journey.

We are also excited to welcome a very special new feathery friend to our school! On Tuesday, eggs arrived in school, and the children waited quietly and patiently for the first small cracks to appear. Early on Friday morning, excitement “flew” across the school as many of the chicks began to hatch and break free from their shells. One by one, they are emerging, leaving the children thrilled to see them. For regular updates on our chicks, be sure to visit our school Instagram and Facebook pages.

Looking ahead, we are looking forward to welcoming parents next week to our school Rainbow Rooms for parent consultations. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and find out more about their progress in school.

It’s been an exciting and memorable week for everyone at school!

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
16th March - 20th March

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 99%
🍁 Sycamore – 97%
🌿 Ash – 96%
🍂 Maple – 96%
🌳 Oak – 95%
🌼 Willow – 97%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 97%

🥇 Congratulations to  Chestnut Class for achieving attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts!

Attendance Communication

We kindly ask all parents and carers to contact the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent.
You can notify us via:

  • Telephone: 01327 702878 – Office hours are 8am-4pm but leaving a voicemail is an option
  • Email: admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk
  • Seesaw message: Ideally to Mrs Griffiths or Mrs Orme.

If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the school office in advance.
Where possible, please provide appointment letters, cards, or confirmation messages so we can update our records accurately.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports the wellbeing of all our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Special Announcements

Farewell to Mrs Birch 💌

We would like to say a fond farewell to Mrs Birch, our dedicated Parent Link Worker, as she begins her well-deserved retirement.

Mrs Birch has been a valued member of our school community for many years and has shared countless wonderful memories with both staff and families. Over her time here, she has supported many children and families, making a real and lasting difference. She began her journey with us as a class teaching assistant before moving into her role as Parent Link Worker, where she has provided care, guidance and support to so many over the years.

We are incredibly grateful for her commitment and the positive impact she has had on our school community. She will be greatly missed.

We thank Mrs Birch for all her hard work and dedication, and wish her a very happy and fulfilling retirement.

Maternity Leave 🍼

We would like to wish Mrs Waldock-Hanson all the very best as she leaves us at Easter to begin her maternity leave. This is a very special and exciting time, and we send our warmest wishes for happiness as she prepares to welcome her baby.

We are also delighted to welcome Mr Chowdry to the school for the summer term, where he will be teaching the Oak class children. We are sure he will receive a very warm welcome from both staff and pupils.

Mrs Hepworth and Mrs Lee will continue to support the children in Oak class, ensuring continuity and a smooth transition.

We wish Mrs Waldock-Hanson all the best in welcoming her new baby, and extend a warm welcome to Mr Chowdry as he joins our school community.

Wedding Bells 💒

Congratulations to Mr Little, who will be getting married over the Easter holidays.

We would like to wish him a truly special day filled with happiness, love and celebration as he begins this exciting new chapter.

Best wishes from everyone at school.

5-Star Hygiene Rating

A huge well done to our wonderful Dolce lunch ladies!
We had our Food Hygiene inspection yesterday from West Northamptonshire Council — and we’re delighted to share that we received another 5‑star rating.

School Office Foyer

If you are in the school office foyer, we kindly ask that you do not let other visitors in.

We appreciate the politeness, but this is an important part of keeping everyone safe and maintaining privacy within our school.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Respectful Language & Behaviour on School Grounds

We kindly remind parents, carers, and visitors to use kind and respectful language at all times on the school site. Swearing, hand gestures or unkind words are not appropriate, as we aim to set a positive example for our children and maintain a caring, welcoming environment for everyone.

No Smoking or Vaping on School Grounds.

We kindly remind all parents, carers, and visitors that smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the school site, including car parks and outdoor areas.

This helps us maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for all our students, staff, and families. Thank you for your cooperation and for setting a positive example for our young people.

⚽Football Week ⚽

On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, children are welcome to come in wearing a football shirt or anything sporty to join in the fun!
There will even be Pokémon‑themed prizes to be won throughout the week — gotta catch ’em all! ⭐️🔵🟡

Calling Our Community Heroes!

After the Easter holidays, EYFS will begin our new learning topic: People Who Help Us. We will be exploring a range of important job roles in our community, including dentists, vets, firefighters, doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other community workers.

If you work in one of these professions—or have a family member who does—and would be happy to come into school to talk to the children about the role, we would greatly appreciate your support. Hearing directly from real professionals helps bring learning to life and deepens the children’s understanding of the world around them.

If you are interested, please contact the school office to leave your details, and an EYFS teacher will be in touch.

Thank you for your continued support!

Book Raffle

We’re excited to encourage a love of reading with our Reading Ticket initiative! Each term, your child will receive reading tickets to complete at home. Once finished, they can bring them back to school and pop them into our special prize box.

Every week in our celebration assembly, we’ll draw tickets at random—and lucky winners will receive a book to take home and keep!

We love seeing our children develop a passion for reading, and your support at home makes all the difference. Happy reading! 📖✨

Year 2 Big Sing Competition

This year, the theme of our Year 2 Big Sing at the Royal & Derngate Theatre is “At the Zoo” 🦁🐘🦒

We are excited to announce a brand-new competition linked to this event! One outstanding piece of artwork from across the school will be selected to be showcased on the stage at the theatre.

All children are invited to take part by creating one piece of artwork inspired by animals that live at the zoo. This can be:

  • A drawing
  • A painting
  • A craft or mixed-media piece

Please ensure that all artwork is clearly labelled with your child’s name and age.

Only one piece of artwork will be chosen to be displayed, so children are encouraged to take their time and make it their very best effort.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful, creative zoo-inspired artwork from across the school.

Online Safety

Online safety is an important part of helping children enjoy technology in a safe way. Popular platforms such as Roblox, Minecraft, Snapchat and WhatsApp can be great for creativity and communication, but they can also allow children to interact with people they do not know. It is important that parents regularly check privacy settings, know who their child is communicating with, and remind children never to share personal information online. With the growing use of AI tools, children should also be encouraged to ask for help from a trusted adult if they see or hear anything online that makes them feel unsure or uncomfortable. Working together helps keep children safe while they explore the digital world. This is a website that can help to support you to keep your children safe online. More support can be found our parents Padlet.

Dental Checks

We encourage all families to make sure their child is registered with a dentist and attends regular check-ups to support good oral health. Visiting the dentist from an early age helps children feel comfortable and can prevent problems developing later on. Many local dental practices are currently accepting new patients and have appointment availability between April and June, so this is a great time to book a check-up if your child has not visited recently or is not yet registered. Please contact your local dental practice to arrange an appointment and help keep your child’s smile healthy.
