Head Of School Review of The Week

It has been another busy and productive week at Falconer’s Hill Infant School, with wonderful learning taking place across all year groups.

In Year 1, the children have been enjoying their writing linked to toys from the past. They have also been exploring how old video games are different from new video games, thinking carefully about how technology has changed over time. The children have been developing their sentence writing by using conjunctions such as and and because to extend and explain their ideas — we have been very impressed with how confidently they are applying these skills.

In Year 2, the focus in Maths has been multiplication. The children have been counting in 2s and building a strong foundation for understanding equal groups. It has been fantastic to see their growing confidence and fluency.

Our EYFS children have jumped enthusiastically into the story of Hello Spring. They have been exploring signs of the new season and linking this to their phonics learning. The children have been practising their “Fred spelling,” reading and writing CVC words and captions linked to Spring. We are so proud of the progress they are making in their early reading and writing.

On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome Helen Williams, CEO of InMAT. She visited to celebrate the school’s success with attendance and spent time meeting our wonderful pupils across the school. It was a pleasure to showcase the fantastic teaching and learning taking place every day — our children were excellent ambassadors for our school.

Reminders for Next Week

We have a very exciting week ahead!

  • Monday – A visit from West End Theatre for all classes, who will be delivering a Storybook Workshop linked to The Ugly Duckling.
  • Thursday – World Book Day – Children are warmly invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. We have lots of exciting activities planned, including our “Story Thief” hunt, bookmark making, and designing your very own storybook character.

It promises to be a very fun-filled and enriching week in school. We look forward to seeing the children enjoy every moment.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
23rd February - 27th February

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 99%
🍁 Sycamore – 96%
🌿 Ash – 95%
🍂 Maple – 95%
🌳 Oak – 97%
🌼 Willow – 93%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 96%

🥇 Congratulations to Chestnut Class for achieving attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts!

Attendance Update – Thank You, FHIS Families!

A huge thank you to all of our children and families for supporting our mission to improve school attendance. We are absolutely delighted to share that we have achieved another 100% attendance day, with every child in school. What a fantastic achievement!

Being in school every day truly matters. Excellent attendance has a direct impact on children’s progress, confidence and overall success, and we are already seeing the positive difference it is making.

During a recent visit from Helen Williams, CEO of InMAT, our school was highly praised for the continued improvements in attendance and the strong progress made since September. This recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our entire school community.

Parents and families play such an important role in this success, and we want to say a very big thank you from the whole FHIS team. We couldn’t do this without you!

To keep the momentum going, we have challenged the children to achieve another 100% attendance day between now and Easter. If they succeed, they will be rewarded with a special Easter Egg Hunt!

Let’s keep going — we can do this!

Attendance Communication Reminder

We kindly ask all parents and carers to contact the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent.
You can notify us via:

  • Telephone: 01327 702878 – Office hours are 8am-4pm but leaving a voicemail is an option
  • Email: admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk
  • Seesaw message: Ideally to Mrs Griifiths or Mrs Orme

If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the school office in advance.
Where possible, please provide appointment letters, cards, or confirmation messages so we can update our records accurately.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports the wellbeing of all our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

S4A Wrap around Care

We are pleased to share that we are currently collaborating with S4A to explore the development of a wraparound care offer for our children and families.

We know that many families have previously expressed interest in extending school provision until 6:00pm, and we have listened carefully to this feedback. As we move forward, it is important to us that any wraparound care is thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs of our children and reflects what parents and families would find most supportive and valuable.

To help us shape this provision, we kindly ask that you complete the following survey to express your interest and share your views. Your feedback will play a vital role in ensuring that the offer is designed around our school community.

School Office Foyer

If you are in the school office foyer, we kindly ask that you do not let other visitors in.

We appreciate the politeness, but this is an important part of keeping everyone safe and maintaining privacy within our school.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Respectful Language & Behaviour on School Grounds

We kindly remind parents, carers, and visitors to use kind and respectful language at all times on the school site. Swearing, hand gestures or unkind words are not appropriate, as we aim to set a positive example for our children and maintain a caring, welcoming environment for everyone.

Year 2 Big Sing Competition

This year, the theme of our Year 2 Big Sing at the Royal & Derngate Theatre is “At the Zoo” 🦁🐘🦒

We are excited to announce a brand-new competition linked to this event! One outstanding piece of artwork from across the school will be selected to be showcased on the stage at the theatre.

All children are invited to take part by creating one piece of artwork inspired by animals that live at the zoo. This can be:

  • A drawing
  • A painting
  • A craft or mixed-media piece

Please ensure that all artwork is clearly labelled with your child’s name and age.

Only one piece of artwork will be chosen to be displayed, so children are encouraged to take their time and make it their very best effort.

We can’t wait to see the wonderful, creative zoo-inspired artwork from across the school.
