✨Head of School Review of the Week ✨

What a wonderful start to the new term it has been! The first week back after Christmas greeted us with a flurry of snow, creating an exciting and magical atmosphere around the school.

It has been a joy to see the children return with such enthusiasm, and I am delighted with how quickly and calmly they have settled back into their routines.

Across school, learning is already well underway. Our Reception children have launched into their new theme, ‘Once Upon a Time’, and are thoroughly enjoying jumping into the world of fairytales through stories, role play, and imaginative exploration. In Year 1, pupils have been developing their computing skills by learning how to use different tools for different purposes on their laptops, showing great focus and curiosity. Year 2 have been busy learning all about money, exploring real-life coins and practising how to make different amounts, linking their learning to everyday situations.

Looking ahead, this term promises to be a very exciting one. We are especially looking forward to our EYFS trip to the Butterfly Farm, which will be a fantastic hands-on learning experience. We also have several special days to celebrate, including World Religion Day and World Book Day. In addition, we are thrilled to be welcoming West End in Schools, who will bring the story of The Ugly Duckling to life for our children.

We are very much looking forward to another fantastic term, filled with lots of learning, fun, and laughter along the way.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
6th January - 9th January

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 98%
🍁 Sycamore – 96%
🌿 Ash – 94%
🍂 Maple – 97%
🌳 Oak – 92%
🌼 Willow – 96%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 95%

🥇 Congratulations to Chestnut Class for achieving 97% attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts!

Illness and Persistent Absence

Did you know that if your child has 2 days off this term, they will be considered as persistently absent?

Persistently absent is where your child’s attendance falls below 96%.

Attendance to school has a significant impact on your child’s success in life. In many cases where attendance is lower, this can negatively impact a child both academically and socially and emotionally. By missing school, children can miss key learning and opportunities to socialise and build friendships with their peers.

As a school, we understand that at this time of year, there are many illnesses going around and appreciate that keeping children well and healthy during the winter months can be a challenge. However, as a school, we have a duty of care to inform you of concerns regarding your child’s attendance. New legislation in place for schools, means that we have a legal obligation to report cases of persistent absence from school to the local authority, which may result in a fine or meetings with the local authority attendance officer.

Your child's attendance impacts progress academically, as well as socially; it is our shared priority.

  • 95% attendance = 9 days of missed learning
  • 90% attendance = 19 days of missed learning
  • 85% attendance = 28 days of missed learning
  • 80% attendance = 38 days of missed learning

We guide you to refer to the NHS illness information if you are unsure whether you should send your child to school or speak to a member of the attendance team, who will be more than happy to work with you to ensure your child is best supported and happily attending school.
