Falconer's Hill Infant School 12.09.2025

Review Of The Week

It has been an exciting week at Falconer’s Hill Infant School, filled with lots of amazing learning across all year groups. The children have impressed us with their enthusiasm, hard work, and creativity. We are especially proud of the many ways they have been demonstrating our school value of the term – Responsibility – whether in their learning, their friendships, or in taking care of their school environment.

In Reception, the children have been exploring The Colour Monster Goes to School and learning about the wide range of emotions that everyone can experience. This work has been thoughtfully linked to discussions about our own families and homes, celebrating how each family is unique and special. The children have shown great curiosity and kindness while embracing our school’s No Outsiders mantra, recognising and valuing the differences that make us all who we are.

In Year 1, the children have started their IT lessons by exploring what technology is and the many different forms it can take. They have also been learning about safe behaviours when using technology, with a particular focus on how to stay safe online. The children have shown great enthusiasm and are already beginning to develop important digital skills that will support their learning across the curriculum.

In Year 2, the children have been immersed in their science, learning about healthy eating. They enjoyed planning their very own healthy meal for our school mascot, Fizz, thinking carefully about the different food groups and how to make balanced choices. The children showed wonderful creativity and responsibility in their ideas, linking perfectly to our school value of the term.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Attendance

Attendance is a priority concern in our duty to ‘safeguard’ children. We believe that children can reach their full potential only by receiving full-time education through regular attendance.

Our target

At FHIS we want to achieve attendance for all pupils of 96% or greater. This is a minimum of an additional 62 hours of learning achieved compared to that of 90% attendance.

This week's attendance

8th September - 12th September

Chestnut – 98%

Sycamore – 96%

Ash – 96%

Maple – 90%

Oak – 97%

Willow – 99%

Whole school – 96%

Each week, the class with the most attendance is awarded the attendance cup.

Important Messages

Dolphins

We have been made aware that Dolphins has been closed for the short term. Please be reassured that, although they lease land from Falconer’s Hill Infant School, they operate entirely independently and have no direct link to the school.

At FHIS, we continue to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice, and this recent development should not cause any concern for our school community.

Thank you for your continued support.

Bikes & Scooters

We love seeing children biking and scooting to school 🚴🛴—it’s a great way to start the day! However, can we kindly remind you to park bikes and scooters in the bike park by the EYFS/Rainbow Room, rather than leaving them on the playground, as this can become a health and safety risk.

Thank you for your support

Introducing Mrs Birch – Our Parent-Link Worker

We are delighted to introduce Mrs Birch, our dedicated Parent-Link Worker here at Falconers Hill Infant School.

Mrs Birch has been a valued member of our school community for many years and brings a wealth of experience in offering practical parenting tips, emotional support, and guidance on a range of services available to families.

As a key member of both our Safeguarding and Attendance Teams, Mrs Birch plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing and engagement of all our children and families.

She is often based in the Heather Room, where parents and carers are warmly welcomed to drop in for a cuppa and a biscuit — whether you’re looking for advice, a listening ear, or just a friendly chat.

If you’d prefer a more private conversation, appointments can be booked through the school office.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Mrs Birch as part of our team, and we encourage all parents to reach out and make the most of the support she offers.

Introducing Mrs Burton – Our Behaviour &Nuture Leader

Hello, my name is Sue Burton, aka Mrs Jellyfish!

It has been my absolute pleasure to have worked at FHIS for the past 21 years in various roles and this year I am happy to be continuing as the Behaviour/Nurture Lead and also as part of the Safeguard Team.

My days are spent ensuring that all our amazing children feel happy, safe and loved, and I accomplish this by implementing all my training in supportive strategies and various fun social and emotional interventions.

Be it support with friendships, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem or learning how to keep themselves safe, I offer both 1:1 work or small group programmes that are consistent and fun for the children to attend.

The children I have the pleasure of working with are identified not only by their class teacher but also by you, the parent/carer.

Please contact your child’s class teacher if you feel my support would be helpful and this can be discussed.
