Head Of School - Review Of The Week

It’s been another fantastic and busy week here at school as we head into the final days of term!

Our Year 2 children have been working hard on their creative writing, capturing their favourite memories and moments from Sports Day. It was wonderful to read their reflections and hear how much they enjoyed the day. Alongside this, rehearsals are in full swing for the Year 2 Leavers’ Show – we are so proud of their dedication and can’t wait for you to see the final performance!

Across Key Stage 1, children have been getting hands-on in the kitchen during their Food Technology Days. Year 1 enjoyed designing and making their own sandwiches, while Year 2 made some delicious pizzas. These experiences are not only great fun but also brilliant for developing independence and life skills.

Meanwhile, our EYFS children have been making the most of the sunshine with lots of water play outdoors. There have been big smiles, plenty of splashing, and lots of great learning through play.

A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising the Year 2 Leavers’ Disco last night – it was a fantastic evening full of dancing, fun, and celebration. We know how much the children appreciated it, and we are so grateful for your continued support in creating such special memories for our pupils.

Thank you as always for your continued support – have a lovely weekend!

Exciting News!

We are delighted to share that we have raised an amazing £600 from our School Summer Fayre!

A huge thank you to everyone for your generous donations, support, and community spirit — we couldn’t have done it without you.

The money raised will go towards new tree benches for our EYFS outdoor area and the school maze, helping us enhance these spaces for all children to enjoy.

Thank you once again for your kindness and continued support!

Bringing Books Home

As we near the end of the school year, children will be bringing home some of their books and work from this year to share with you and celebrate their learning journey.

Please could all children bring a bag to school next week to help them carry their books and any remaining belongings home safely.

Thank you for your support!

Attendance

Attendance is a priority concern in our duty to ‘safeguard’ children. We believe that children can reach their full potential only by receiving full-time education through regular attendance.

Our target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School we want to achieve attendance for all pupils of 96% or greater. This is a minimum of an additional 62 hours of learning achieved compared to that of 90% attendance.

Monday 14th July – Friday 18th July

Chestnut – 95%

Sycamore – 95%

Ash – 97%

Maple – 97%

Oak – 98%

Willow – 95%

Whole school – 96%

We have an exciting new opportunity to join our governing body.

We have a vacancy for a parent governor.

We welcome you to attend 3 meetings per year, to talk about how the school is working hard to provide the best education for our children at FHIS. As part of the role, you have the opportunity to pop-in when you can monitor teaching and learning and work with teachers and leaders of the school.

If you are interested in joining our fantastic team, please speak to a member of our office team.

Reminders

Sun Safety

Please can we gently remind parents/guardians to send children in with water bottles and sun hats.

Sunglasses are not allowed in school unless it's for medical reasons. Sun cream is to be applied before school and not sent in with the children as we are unable to apply this to them.

Parking

A gentle reminder that parking on school premises at drop-off and pick-up is for blue badge holders only.

Playground Safety

We kindly ask all parents and children to refrain from riding scooters or bikes on the school playground before and after school.

Our playground is a busy space, especially during drop-off and pick-up times, and riding at speed can pose a risk to younger children and adults moving through the area.

To help keep everyone safe, please walk your bikes and scooters while on the school grounds.

Thank you for your understanding and support in keeping our playground safe for all.

Internet Safety

We would like to take this opportunity to remind families of the importance of actively monitoring what children are watching and playing at home, particularly online.

We have recently received several reports of children talking about or re-enacting content from programmes such as Squid Game and games such as Call of Duty, which are not age-appropriate for primary-aged children due to their violent and graphic nature. Exposure to this type of content can have a negative impact on children’s behaviour, wellbeing, and understanding of appropriate social interactions.

As a school, we are committed to promoting a safe and nurturing environment for all pupils. We ask for your continued support in ensuring that children only access content that is suitable for their age and development. Please take the time to check privacy settings, game age ratings (PEGI), and view programmes together where possible.

If you need any advice or support on keeping your child safe online, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We are always here to help.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
