?Review Of The Week ?

What a wonderful week we have had in school! It has been lovely to see the children jumping into new learning adventures, embracing new experiences and growing in confidence as they settle into the new school year.

Our Reception children enjoyed their very first yoga session this week. They practised the sun salutation and learnt a new breathing technique to help them feel calm and ready to learn. It was fantastic to see them having a go and discovering new ways to support their wellbeing.

In Year 1, the children have been developing their physical skills during Multi-Skills. They have been practising balancing on one leg and on different parts of their bodies, showing great concentration, determination and resilience as they challenged themselves.

Our Year 2 children have been exploring the story of Abraham and Sarah in RE. They have been sequencing the story and asking and answering questions about the morals and messages within it. It has been wonderful to hear the children sharing their ideas and thinking carefully about what they can learn from the story.

This week, the children have also been busy completing their phonics baseline assessments. A reminder to families that reading is a lifelong skill, and regular practice makes such an important difference. Spending a little time reading and practising phonics every day really helps children to build their confidence, fluency and independence. Teachers are also sharing videos on Seesaw to support children with practising their phonics sounds and skills at home, so please do take a few minutes to watch these together.

We also held our first Reception Phonics Workshop this week. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who attended. We hope you found the session useful and that it has given you some helpful ideas for supporting your child as they begin their phonics and reading journey.

Another fantastic week of learning at Falconer's Hill — keep jumping into those new learning adventures, everyone! 🌟

Reception Phonics Workshops

This week, we welcomed our Reception parents to our first phonics workshops of the year.

We know that learning to read is a lifelong skill, and those early days are crucial in building the foundations for your child’s success.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and made their children’s learning a priority. Your support and involvement make such a difference!

The next Phonics workshop will take place on Thursday 1st October at 4pm.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
14th September - 18th September

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 95%
🍁 Sycamore – 100%
🌿 Ash – 100%
🍂 Maple – 94%
🌳 Oak – 95%
🌼 Willow – 99%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 97.3%

🥇 Congratulations to Sycamore  & Ash for achieving the most attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts!

Attendance Communication

We kindly ask all parents and carers to contact the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent.
You can notify us via:

  • Telephone: 01327 702878 – Office hours are 8am-4pm but leaving a voicemail is an option
  • Email: admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk
  • Seesaw message: Ideally to Mrs Griffiths or Mrs Orme.

If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the school office in advance.
Where possible, please provide appointment letters, cards, or confirmation messages so we can update our records accurately.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports the wellbeing of all our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Home Learning at FHIS

This year, every child will receive a new home learning book, alongside phonics and key learning videos shared on Seesaw.

?? Class teachers will set one home learning task each week and collect the books in the following week.

For key dates and details about your child’s homework day, please speak to or contact your child’s class teacher.

We look forward to continuing to work together to support learning at home and school! ??

Miss Giles' creative challenge this half term is 'Autumn Craft' to display in our school hall. Children who complete this home learning challenge will be able to collect a headteacher's sticker!

ASD and ADHD Waiting Times

Unfortunately, because of high numbers of children being referred to this service, our waiting lists are currently very long. We know waiting can be difficult, and we are sorry that it will take longer to be seen than you might have expected.

The current average waiting time for a first appointment with this service is 90 weeks (updated July 2026). This means that, for most people being referred into the service now, it usually takes around 90 weeks before they are seen for the first time. However, some people may wait longer than this as everyone's needs and circumstances are different.

We are all working extremely hard to reduce the wait.

There is support available for your family while you wait, and we encourage you to access this support when needed. It is available for children and young people with or without a diagnosis.

School Office Foyer

If you are in the school office foyer, we kindly ask that you do not let other visitors in.

We appreciate the politeness, but this is an important part of keeping everyone safe and maintaining privacy within our school.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Respectful Language & Behaviour on School Grounds

We kindly remind parents, carers, and visitors to use kind and respectful language at all times on the school site. Swearing, hand gestures or unkind words are not appropriate, as we aim to set a positive example for our children and maintain a caring, welcoming environment for everyone.
