Review Of The Week

This week in school has been filled with exciting learning experiences across all year groups! Year 2 students have been working hard on creating their final piece of artwork inspired by the African artist Gakonga, showcasing their creativity and understanding of his unique style. Year 1 has been exploring measurements, with students investigating the shortest, longest, and tallest objects in their classroom, helping them develop their understanding of size and comparison. Meanwhile, our EYFS children have been diving into this term's theme of "growing and plants," learning about how plants grow and the different stages of their development. It’s been a week full of creativity, curiosity, and growth!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the parents for their incredible generosity in supporting the children’s Sponsored Muddy Run. Thanks to your efforts, we have raised an impressive £2360, which will go towards purchasing new PE equipment for the school. As part of our learning about the British value of democracy, over the next few weeks, the children will be involved in voting to select the new equipment they would like to have. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to engage with the democratic process and contribute to decisions that will benefit their school experience.

We are looking forward to an exciting term filled with lots of new and engaging experiences for our students! Upcoming highlights include celebrating World Book Day, where students will have the chance to dress up as their favourite book characters and take part in fun reading activities. Later in the term, we are thrilled to welcome a scientist for an inspiring visit, giving our students the opportunity to explore the wonders of science up close. We will also be inviting grandparents to join us for a special Grandparents' Smart Day, where we can celebrate and share wonderful memories with our extended families. It’s shaping up to be a term full of learning, fun, and community!

Warmest wishes,

Miss Giles

Film Club

This week, our school hall was transformed into a vibrant cinema for our Film Club, providing a truly unique experience for our students! The atmosphere was filled with excitement as we set up a big screen, comfy seating, and popcorn, creating the perfect setting for a movie night. The children enjoyed watching their selected film in the cozy, cinema-like environment, and it was a wonderful way to bring the school community together for a fun and relaxing afternoon. We look forward to more movie magic in the future!

Attendance

Attendance is a priority concern in our duty to ‘safeguard’ children. We believe that children can reach their full potential only by receiving full-time education through regular attendance.

Our target

At FHIS we want to achieve attendance for all pupils of 96% or greater. This is a minimum of an additional 62 hours of learning achieved compared to that of 90% attendance.

24th February - 28th February

Chestnut – 95%

Sycamore – 98%

Ash – 93%

Maple – 93%

Oak – 92%

Willow – 97%

Whole school – 94%

World Book Day preparation

After the half-term, we are excited to celebrate World Book Day 2025 with a variety of fun activities for all our students. On this special day, we invite everyone to dress up as their favourite book character, bringing their beloved stories to life. Throughout the day, we will be sharing stories, designing illustrations, and even writing our own creative tales. It's a wonderful opportunity to ignite a passion for reading and inspire our students to explore new books and characters. We can’t wait to see the amazing costumes and celebrate the joy of reading together!
