โœจHead of School Review of the Week โœจ

This week has been a very positive one for the school, with lots of new learning taking place and children fully engaged in their curriculum experiences.

In Year 1, pupils have been exploring the seasons in science. They enjoyed a winter walk, using their senses to see, feel, and spot signs that winter is here. This hands-on experience supported their understanding and encouraged curiosity and discussion.

Year 2 have been learning about the artist Gakonga, developing their knowledge of artistic styles and techniques. The children created sketches in their sketchbooks inspired by his work, showing great focus, creativity, and pride in their outcomes.

In EYFS, children have fully immersed themselves in the story of Hansel and Gretel. They have enjoyed retelling the story, engaging in imaginative play, and creating houses using junk modelling. This has supported their storytelling, creativity, and collaborative skills.

Overall, it has been a calm and purposeful week, with children enthusiastic about their learning and staff providing engaging and meaningful experiences across the school.

Looking ahead to next week, we have some exciting opportunities planned for the children! EYFS will be visiting the Butterfly Farm, exploring the life cycle of butterflies and how caterpillars transform into butterflies. The whole school will also welcome the Life Education team on Wednesday, learning ways to keep our brains and bodies healthy. We are especially excited to welcome back Harold the Giraffe!

It promises to be another engaging and inspiring week for all.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

๐ŸŽฏOur Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

โœ…  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage โ€” thatโ€™s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Letโ€™s work together to support our childrenโ€™s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
12th January - 16th January

Hereโ€™s how each class did this week with their attendance:

๐ŸŒฐ Chestnut โ€“ 88%
๐Ÿ Sycamore โ€“ 95%
๐ŸŒฟ Ash โ€“ 94%
๐Ÿ‚ Maple โ€“ 94%
๐ŸŒณ Oak โ€“ 100% ๐Ÿฅ‡
๐ŸŒผ Willow โ€“ 97%

๐Ÿซ Whole School Attendance โ€“ 95%

๐Ÿฅ‡ Congratulations to Oak Class for achieving 100% attendance this week! Youโ€™ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school โ€” every day counts!

Illness and Persistent Absence

Did you know that if your child has 2 days off this term, they will be considered as persistently absent?

Persistently absent is where your childโ€™s attendance falls below 96%.

Attendance to school has a significant impact on your childโ€™s success in life. In many cases where attendance is lower, this can negatively impact a child both academically and socially and emotionally. By missing school, children can miss key learning and opportunities to socialise and build friendships with their peers.

As a school, we understand that at this time of year, there are many illnesses going around and appreciate that keeping children well and healthy during the winter months can be a challenge. However, as a school, we have a duty of care to inform you of concerns regarding your childโ€™s attendance. New legislation in place for schools, means that we have a legal obligation to report cases of persistent absence from school to the local authority, which may result in a fine or meetings with the local authority attendance officer.

Your child's attendance impacts progress academically, as well as socially; it is our shared priority.

  • 95% attendance = 9 days of missed learning
  • 90% attendance = 19 days of missed learning
  • 85% attendance = 28 days of missed learning
  • 80% attendance = 38 days of missed learning

We guide you to refer to the NHS illness information if you are unsure whether you should send your child to school or speak to a member of the attendance team, who will be more than happy to work with you to ensure your child is best supported and happily attending school.

Attendance Reminder

We kindly ask all parents/carers to please make contact with the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent from school. You can notify us by telephone (01327 702878), email (admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk) or Seesaw.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports wellbeing for all students.

Thank you for your support & cooperation

World Religion Day

This week, our school has been celebrating World Religion Day, a special opportunity to learn about and appreciate the many religions and beliefs that make up our world. Pupils took part in a range of fun and meaningful activities, including creative crafts inspired by different faiths, engaging storytelling sessions, and a food share where we explored traditional foods from various cultures.

Through these activities, children have been learning about respect, understanding and the importance of celebrating diversity. It has been a joyful and enriching experience, and we are proud of the curiosity, enthusiasm and kindness shown by everyone involved.

The Big Sing!

InMAT and the Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust have joined together to give all the InMAT schools the opportunity to join for an exciting project โ€œBig Sing at the zoo.โ€

This project will culminate in an evening performance at the Royal and Derngate Theatre on Wednesday 20th May 2026.

Children who will participate in this experience will learn a range of different songs in school during sessions led by professional music teachers. We are only able to take 20 children from Year 2. A letter will be sent home with Year 2 children today. If your child is interested, please read and return the slip by the deadline.

If you have any questions, then please speak to Miss Williamson.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor on our Governing Board and would welcome applications from parents and carers who are interested in supporting our school.

Parent governors play an important role in helping to shape the strategic direction of the school, working alongside staff and governors to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils. You do not need any previous experience of governance โ€“ just an interest in education, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to working as part of a team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to:

  • Represent the views of parents and carers
  • Support and challenge the school constructively
  • Gain new skills and insight into how the school operates

If you would like to find out more or are interested in applying, please contact the school office for further information. We would be very happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for your continued support of our school community.
