Head Of School – Review Of The Week

It’s been another busy and exciting week in school!

EYFS have been learning all about Autumn, exploring the changes in nature and creating some beautiful Autumn collage trees using leaves and natural materials they collected outside.

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic outdoor learning day, where they practised their number bonds to ten in fun, hands-on ways. They also brought the story of Little Red Riding Hood to life by retelling it in the woods, making the tale feel wonderfully real and engaging.

Year 2 have been getting creative with press printing, experimenting with patterns, textures, and colours to produce some amazing artwork.

Across school, it’s also been our Read Write Inc. assessment week. All the children have been working hard to practise their phonics sounds and show how much progress they’ve made, ready to move into their new groups next week.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to all the families and parents who joined us for our Harvest Festivals. It was an exciting first performance of the year, and the children loved singing their harvest songs and reciting their autumn poems. Well done to all our wonderful children for their confidence and enthusiasm!

What a fantastic week of learning, creativity, and celebration across our school community.

This week we had our first 100% attendance day with every child in school!

This is great! We would like to take a moment to thank you as parents for making sure your child is in school every day. We know that attendance has a significant impact on your child’s success in life. In many cases where attendance is lower, this can negatively impact a child both academically and socially and emotionally. By missing school, children can miss key learning and opportunities to socialise and build friendships with their peers.

Thank you!

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯 Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅ Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count! ??

This Week's Attendance
6th October - 10th October

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 99&
🍁 Sycamore – 96%
🌿 Ash – 94%
🍂 Maple – 100%
🌳 Oak – 99%
🌼 Willow – 98%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 98%

🥇 Congratulations to Maple Class for achieving 100% attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts! 📚✨

Autumn Home Learning Adventures!

As the leaves turn golden, and the air grows crisp, autumn is the perfect season for children to get creative and enjoy the great outdoors. This term, we’re encouraging families to embrace all that this beautiful season has to offer as part of our home learning.

From woodland walks and leaf art to conker counting and seasonal storytelling, there are so many ways to learn and play outside. Whether it's collecting natural treasures, writing poems inspired by autumn scenes, or creating crafts using fallen leaves, we’d love to see how your child explores and enjoys this special time of year.

Let’s celebrate the season with imagination, curiosity, and a little bit of muddy fun!

Jellyfish Session Update – “Silly Billy” and Worry Dolls

This week in our Jellyfish session, the children explored the story of Silly Billy – a little boy who had an awful lot of worries. Through this gentle and thoughtful tale, we opened up conversations about the things that can make us feel wibbly-wobbly inside.

The children had lots of fun designing and creating their very own Worry Dolls, inspired by the story.  Some of our brave little ones even shared their own worries with the group – a wonderful step in building confidence and emotional resilience.
