Head Of School – Review Of The Week

What a fun-filled and engaging week it has been at school! It's always a joy to see our children learning with such enthusiasm and curiosity.

In EYFS, our youngest learners have been exploring the wonderful world of 2D shapes. From circles and triangles to squares and rectangles, the children have been recognising, naming, and sorting shapes through a variety of hands-on activities. It’s been fantastic to see their excitement as they spot shapes in their environment and describe their properties with growing confidence.

Year 1 have been busy developing their understanding of whole-part models in maths. The children particularly enjoyed taking their learning outdoors this week, where they worked together to find two numbers that add up to a given total. Learning through play and nature has really helped to bring their maths to life!

In Year 2, creativity has taken centre stage as the children have been diving into the art of printing. They’ve been exploring different techniques and were especially fascinated by the ‘magic’ of carbon printing — watching their designs come to life was a real highlight!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead!

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯 Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅ Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count! 🌟

This Week's Attendance
22nd – 26th September

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 98%
🍁 Sycamore – 96%
🌿 Ash – 99% 🎉
🍂 Maple – 94%
🌳 Oak – 95%
🌼 Willow – 98%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 97%

🥇 Congratulations to ASH Class for achieving 99% attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts! 📚✨

At our school we are proud to be a No Outsiders school, which means that teaching about equality and inclusion is part of our curriculum and safeguarding practice. The Equality Act (2010) is British law and protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society. It refers to the following ‘protected characteristics’: race, religion or belief, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, and marriage or civil partnership. Through carefully chosen books, lessons and discussions, children learn from an early age that everyone is different and everyone is valued. This work supports our duty to prepare children for life in modern Britain, to keep them safe from discrimination, and to promote respect for all. By embedding these values across the curriculum, we ensure our children understand that there are no outsiders here – everyone is welcome.

Naming School Uniform & Belongings

Please ensure that all children’s clothing and belongings — including coats, shoes, and school uniforms — are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Our little ones sometimes find it tricky to recognise their own items, and clear labelling helps staff return misplaced items quickly and reduces lost property.

🔍 Top Tip:
Check labels regularly to make sure names are still visible after washing or wear.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep things organised! 🧥👟📚

Online Safety

At this age, many children are naturally curious and may begin exploring online games such as Roblox. These platforms can be fun and creative — but it's essential to make sure children stay safe while playing.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Top Tips for Parents:

  • Set up parental controls and use child-friendly settings

  • Supervise play whenever possible

  • Remind your child never to share personal information

  • Encourage them to tell you straight away if something online makes them feel uncomfortable.

Together, we can help children enjoy the benefits of online play while staying protected.

Autumn Home Learning Adventures!

As the leaves turn golden, and the air grows crisp, autumn is the perfect season for children to get creative and enjoy the great outdoors. This term, we’re encouraging families to embrace all that this beautiful season has to offer as part of our home learning.

From woodland walks and leaf art to conker counting and seasonal storytelling, there are so many ways to learn and play outside. Whether it's collecting natural treasures, writing poems inspired by autumn scenes, or creating crafts using fallen leaves, we’d love to see how your child explores and enjoys this special time of year.

Let’s celebrate the season with imagination, curiosity, and a little bit of muddy fun! 🌳🍂✨
