Head Of School – Review Of The Week

What a busy and vibrant week it has been in school! It’s been a joy to see our children so engaged in their Read Write Inc. phonics sessions. Their enthusiasm for learning and growing as readers is truly inspiring.

A big thank you to our new Reception parents who joined us for our Welcome to Phonics workshops. It was wonderful to share how we teach phonics and support early reading – your involvement makes such a difference.

This week, our teachers have also been taking part in Read Write Inc. training to further strengthen our expertise in delivering high-quality phonics lessons. We are always striving to ensure every child receives the best start on their reading journey.

Just a reminder to read with your child every day and record it in their reading log. As the famous quote from Dr. Seuss says:

"The more you read, the more you know, the more places you’ll go."

We can’t wait to hear all about the exciting reading adventures your children go on!

Wishing you a restful weekend and more happy reading ahead.

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯 Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅ Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count! 🌟

This Week's Attendance
15th – 19th September

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 99%
🍁 Sycamore – 98%
🌿 Ash – 100% 🎉
🍂 Maple – 96%
🌳 Oak – 97%
🌼 Willow – 99%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 98%

🥇 Congratulations to Ash Class for achieving 100% attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts! 📚✨

Important Messages

Dolphins

We have been made aware that Dolphins has been closed for the short term. Please be reassured that, although they lease land from Falconer’s Hill Infant School, they operate entirely independently and have no direct link to the school.

At FHIS, we continue to uphold the highest standards of safeguarding practice, and this recent development should not cause any concern for our school community.

Thank you for your continued support.

Bikes & Scooters

We love seeing children biking and scooting to school 🚴🛴—it’s a great way to start the day! However, can we kindly remind you to park bikes and scooters in the bike park by the EYFS/Rainbow Room, rather than leaving them on the playground, as this can become a health and safety risk.

Thank you for your support

Naming School Uniform & Belongings

Please ensure that all children’s clothing and belongings — including coats, shoes, and school uniforms — are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Our little ones sometimes find it tricky to recognise their own items, and clear labelling helps staff return misplaced items quickly and reduces lost property.

🔍 Top Tip:
Check labels regularly to make sure names are still visible after washing or wear.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us keep things organised! 🧥👟📚

Online Safety

At this age, many children are naturally curious and may begin exploring online games such as Roblox. These platforms can be fun and creative — but it's essential to make sure children stay safe while playing.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Top Tips for Parents:

  • Set up parental controls and use child-friendly settings

  • Supervise play whenever possible

  • Remind your child never to share personal information

  • Encourage them to tell you straight away if something online makes them feel uncomfortable.

Together, we can help children enjoy the benefits of online play while staying protected.
