Falconer's Hill Infant School Friday 2nd October 2026

?Head of School Review Of The Week ?

It has been another great week at Falconer’s Hill Infant School!

This week, we were very excited to officially open our brand-new EYFS role-play area, Fizz’s Village! 🏘️ The children now have access to a range of exciting role-play shops and settings, including a café, fire station and post office. These wonderful spaces provide so many opportunities for our children to develop their speaking and listening, turn-taking, sharing and imaginative play skills. It has been fantastic to see the children already bringing their own ideas to life and using the resources so creatively.

On Saturday 26th September, we also opened the school to welcome prospective new families. It was lovely to meet families who are considering Falconer’s Hill Infant School and to share what makes our school such a special place to learn and grow.

🔬 In Year 1, the children have been exploring their sense of smell as part of their science learning. They had lots of fun smelling different mystery pots and trying to guess what was inside. There were some interesting guesses!

🎨 In Year 2, the children have been developing their art skills through relief printing. They used polystyrene tiles, carefully drawing and pressing a design into the surface with a pencil before applying paint and creating their own prints in their books. We were impressed by the care and creativity they showed.

Another busy week of learning, exploring and making memories together. Well done, everyone! ❤️

Message from the EYFS Team

Since your children started school with us, we have been working hard to encourage and develop their independence and self-care skills.

Please see the attached image, which shows some of the key skills children are expected to be able to complete independently when starting school.

We have now completed the children’s DfE Reception Baseline Assessment, and our next school assessment window will take place towards the end of this half-term.

We would really appreciate your support at home by looking through the skills on the attached image and identifying any that your child may still need help to develop. Please encourage, practise and teach these skills at home wherever possible. Giving children regular opportunities to have a go independently before stepping in to help can make a huge difference to their confidence and independence.

Working together between home and school will help your child to continue making progress and support them in working towards their age-related expectations.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of your child’s learning and development.

Kind wishes,
EYFS Team

Attendance Matters

Attendance is a priority concern as part of our commitment to safeguarding every child. We believe that children can only reach their full potential through regular, full-time education.

🎯Our Attendance Target

At Falconer's Hill Infant School, we aim for all pupils to achieve at least 96% attendance.

✅  Why 96%?
Pupils with 96% or higher attendance gain a significant advantage — that’s at least 62 more hours of learning compared to a child with just 90% attendance.

Let’s work together to support our children’s education and make every school day count!

This Week's Attendance
28th September - 2nd October

Here’s how each class did this week with their attendance:

🌰 Chestnut – 94%
🍁 Sycamore – 98%
🌿 Ash – 99%
🍂 Maple – 95%
🌳 Oak – 96%
🌼 Willow – 96%

🏫 Whole School Attendance – 96%

🥇 Congratulations to Ash for achieving the most attendance this week! You’ve earned the Attendance Cup! Well done!

Let's keep up the great attendance at our school — every day counts!

Attendance Communication

We kindly ask all parents and carers to contact the school as early as possible if your child is going to be absent.
You can notify us via:

  • Telephone: 01327 702878 – Office hours are 8am-4pm but leaving a voicemail is an option
  • Email: admin@fhis.inmat.org.uk
  • Seesaw message: Ideally to Mrs Griffiths or Mrs Orme.

If your child has a medical appointment, please inform the school office in advance.
Where possible, please provide appointment letters, cards, or confirmation messages so we can update our records accurately.

Early communication helps us keep our attendance records accurate and supports the wellbeing of all our students.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Home Learning at FHIS

This year, every child will receive a new home learning book, alongside phonics and key learning videos shared on Seesaw.

Class teachers will set one home learning task each week and collect the books for the following week.

For key dates and details about your child’s homework day, please speak to or contact your child’s class teacher.

We look forward to continuing to work together to support learning at home and school! ??

Miss Giles' creative challenge this half-term is 'Autumn Craft' to display in our school hall. Children who complete this home learning challenge will be able to collect a headteacher's sticker!
